AI Teacher Professional Development

Despite being able to dissemination AI strategies with the pre-service teachers at my university, I realised (through a conversation with a former colleague) that in-service teachers may be completely overwhelmed by the giant elephant in the room that is GenAI. As a result, and guided by the AI competency framework for teachers | UNESCO and New framework outlines best practice for AI in higher education - ACSES, I have developed a 2-hour workshop session designed for in-service teachers. These workshops ensure that teachers walk away:
understanding AI fundamentals and critically evaluate AI tools for educational use,
exploring ethical considerations including data privacy, human accountability, and academic integrity,
engaging in hands-on practice with AI tools for lesson planning, differentiation, and assessment design,
developing strategies for teaching students to use AI responsibly and critically, and
creating an action plan for implementing AI in their specific teaching context.
These workshops can be adjusted to suit the needs of the school, can be run multiple times a day for smaller groups, and tailored to focus on specific GenAI use such as assessment design.
